Introduction :
                            The nutritional needs of a normal human being vary according to the needs of growth and development at all stages of life from infancy to old age.A balanced diet at this time meets the nutritional needs of any nutrient and protects people from nutritional problems.But when a person is afflicted with a disease, he has to change his normal diet.This variable balanced diet is called diet.Diet helps the diseased person to exchange disease and return to normal.
                              Many times it is not possible to cure the disease with medicine alone. It is not possible to cure the disease.In that case proper nutritional care with medicines is absolutely necessary.In many cases, the cure can be achieved by using the right diet without using medicine or at least through the right diet.

  •  Diet: Diet is the provision of nutritious food to the patient according to age, gender and physical illness to cure the disease. The diet that helps to cure the disease is called Therapeutic Diet. And the cure for diseases through food is called Diet Therapy.


Requirement of Diets:
  1. Provide the required calories according to the patient's needs.
  2. Maintain proper nutrition in the patient's body.
  3. Compensate the body.
  4. Helping the obese person to lose weight.
  5. Help the sick person to recover.
  6. Build immunity in the patient's body so that the disease does not re-attack.
  7. Control special food ingredients as needed.
  8. Provide information by modifying the patient's aversion as needed.
Function of Diets
        The main function of the diet is - 
  1. Diet helps cure the patient's disease.
  2. Helps to compensate and increase the body of the patient.
  3. Helps to bring the body back to normal by making it healthy and strong.
  4. Builds the body's resistance to disease.
Classification of Diets:
       Diet can be divided into 3 main parts namely -
  1. Liquid Diets  -- A. Clear Liquid Diets  B. Full Liquid Diets
  2. Soft Diets
  3. Light Diets

1. Liquid Diets:- There are mainly 2 types of liquid diet..

                       A) Clear Liquid Diets:- Clear liquid diets are usually provided before and after the operation.Transparent liquid diet is usually given 1 to 2 days. This type of diet provides some amount of energy to the patient's body and helps to maintain hydration.Examples of such diets are - tea or coffee without milk, fat-free meat broth, carbonated beverages, oranges or seasonal juices, glucose water(10%),Glucose mixed barley water, young coconut water, electrolyte water etc.

                         B) Full Liquid Diets:- Complete fluids are supplied to critically ill patients or patients who are unable to chew or take solid foods. Examples of such suffixes are - liquid, milk, ice cream, milk, vegetable and fruit juices of any food, No. 1, gelatin, yogurt, sugar, butter,margarine, ghee, oil, meat broth, tea-coffee, carbonated drinks, fully cooked pulses etc. are given at 2-3 hour intervals.

2. Soft Diets:-
                   Soft diet is provided in patients with gastrointestinal problems and severe infections after surgery. This is the first nature's easy-to-digest low-fiber and low-spice rich.
Examples of such suffixes are-- boiled vegetables, boiled eggs, milk and dairy foods, boiled cheese, potatoes and apples, boiled raw vegetables, boiled grains, etc.
3. Light Diets:-
                      This kind of path is a lot like a soft path. Examples of such suffixes are - light soft foods, foot salads, cheese, etc.
